A/B Testing Basics

6 min readA/B Testing

A/B testing (also called split testing) is the secret weapon of high-converting pages. It lets you compare two versions of a link to see which performs better. Here's how it works in Pautly.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing splits your traffic between two variants of a link. Half your visitors see Version A, half see Version B. After enough data is collected, you can see which version got more clicks.

What Can You Test?

In Pautly, you can test variations of:

  • Link titles - Different wording or calls-to-action
  • URLs - Different landing pages or offers
  • Thumbnails - Different images or icons
  • Styling - Colors, borders, shadows

Why A/B Test?

Small changes can have big impacts. A simple title change might increase clicks by 20% or more. Without testing, you're just guessing what works.

On average, Pautly users who run A/B tests see a 15-30% improvement in click-through rates.

Statistical Significance

Pautly automatically calculates statistical significance to tell you when a result is reliable. We recommend waiting until you reach 95% confidence before declaring a winner.

Tip: Let tests run for at least 7 days to account for daily and weekly traffic variations.
